Miguel Torres....pound for pound he is currently the best fighter in the world.  No one will ever live up to Royce Gracie though!

I think George St. Pierre is the best pound for pound just because of the level of competition he has faced and beaten...I also think that the only reason Royce Gracie was so good is because back in '93 when the UFC started everybody was one dimentional. If Gracie in his prime came into the UFC now he would get destroyed because the MMA has evolved that much in the last 16 years...That is just my opinion though

Gracie is a master of technique...that hasn't just disappeared!

I agree. Gracie is a master of technique, in BJJ. That is undeniable. It was his family that brought it to america. If he was in bjj contest with anyone, he would more than likely destroy them because it is what he knows, but, as it has been said before, it is totally different putting somebody in an armbar in BJJ and putting somebody in an armbar while getting punched in the face in mma. Single style vs. single style, Gracie will win and that was proven in the begining of the UFC, but when you combine everything and truly make it into a mixed martial arts fight, he doesn't even rank.

I couldn't disagree more...in the early days of the UFC everything went...you could not only get pounded in the face, they could rip your head off if they wanted too....and all disciplines could compete and did compete....and Gracie beat them all!  The best of the best today are just trying to live up to Gracie's ability.
