The Right Way to LOSE.

The Official Blog of the Beautiful Bunch (see Groups-Health, Wellness, Fitness)

Weight loss is not complicated, YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT.  Never the less I’m not going to SUGAR COAT it for you, not in a weight loss blog.

It’s a two step dance of eating right and exercising all held together with discipline.  I’m going to give you the SKINNY, what to do and what not to do. Ultimately, however, it is you who is going to change your life.

REMEMBER DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE IS YOUR FRIEND.

First, Let’s Talk Nutrition

You have to eat right. Well what does that mean? Stay away from foods that stay with you and it take a long time for your body to get rid of them.  For instance, FLOUR, SUGAR, FAT, DAIRY, RED MEAT (although protein is not stored like other foods there are better proteins out there than red meat)

Let us take flour as an example.  Flour is broken down immediately, thus it is stored as fat as soon as it is broken down, so unless you are going to run a marathon the following day it will stay with you.  What ever you do not burn off you will collect and get heavier.

This concept works for all your fatty foods.  You need to change your diet from processed sugary foods to fruit, fiber and proteins.  Eat less pasta and potatoes.  Now I am not saying to completely eliminate these foods from your life. I love pizza and ice cream as much as the next guy, but I eat them less frequently.

Stay away from Poison

You have to read labels.  Yes, to lose weight takes a little effort, and reading is one thing you will have to do.  Nutrition labels will let you know if you should buy the particular product you are considering.

PARTIALLY/FULLY HYDROGENATED OILS OR TRANS FATS, AKA POISON

These man made preservatives stay solid at room temperature thus enabling products to have a longer shelf life.  The problem is that they stay solid at body temperature and need a longer time to be broken down. When you do not break them down and consume more and more the amount builds up in your body and arteries which may lead to blocked arteries in the future.

I actually heard some food producers state in their TV ads, that their product has “As little trans fats as nature allows.” This is a flat out lie, trans fats are man made.  Oil is infused with hydrogen to make the preservative last longer

HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, YOUR OTHER POISON

This is a man made sweetener which unlike ordinary sugar does not release insulin and insulin breaks down the sugar to help you burn it.  Because it does not trigger your body to release insulin it is not broken down and is immediately stored as fat.

BOTTOM LINE.

Eat right. Just try not eating junk or fast food for a few weeks and stick to good home made meals.  When you try to go back to junk it will not taste as good as it did before, it will seem greasy and heavy.  Trust me.

Second, Exercise

You can’t lose weight with out it.  Eating right and exercise are inseparable. You have to make exercise a part of your life, like brushing your teeth.  You brush your teeth every day, so you should exercise every day, at least 3 day a week.

I lift weights 4 day a week and go for a long walk and a hike once a week.  I also walk three times a day (probably about an hour) because I have a dog.  Exercise like this counts and is IMPORTANT.  Now I know what you’re going to say, “I’m too busy, I have to take care of my kids etc.” I don’t want to hear it.  You must be disciplined.  Brushing your teeth remember, it must become a part of your life do it 3 day a week  for 40 min. a day.  If you’re going to watch your favorite show exercises while you are watching.  Or if you are going to sit and gab on the phone after dinner, do yourself a favor and grab your cell and take a walk around the neighborhood.

BOTTOM LINE

These things I write are not complicated.  I’m not asking you to run a hedge fund. But you must be disciplined to lose weight just like you have to be disciplined to take any exam, you have to study, put in the time and you’ll pass.

IT'S ABOUT YOU AND IT'S ABOUT TIME

This means you have to manage your time better, CONSISTENCY IS KEY.  Exercise has to become a part of your weekly if not daily routine.  I'm not going to lie to you, the first 3 to 6 month are difficult, however, the excess weight comes off fast and you have to push through those early days and weeks where results are not yet visible.

The point is you have to put in the time, even turning on the remote takes some effort, so does weight loss.

You have to think of it as weight maintenance, you have to keep doing it, it's a part of your life, it's not temporary or just until you lose the weight.  It's constantly maintaining your body.  And it gets a lot easier with every passing day.

Once the weight come off it is a lot easier to keep it off.  Now you don't have to work as hard as you did before, you can take a day off here and there, or a week off.  You could eat something that is not so good for you, but it's a treat.  This is not an every day thing, remember that.  Weight loss is continuous maintenance, it's a life style.

LETS GO TO WORK

Which exercises, you may ask?  Well lets do some of the basics.  You don't need to feel overwhelmed, you also don't need to all kids of exercises.  Stick to the basics.  PUSH AND PULL.  You do your "PUSH" work out one day the the "PULL" the next.  That's one type of exercise on alternate days, (PUSH-Monday/Wednesday and PULL-Tuesday/Thursday.)

PUSH

Your pushing exercises are your push-ups, you bench press, tricep or leg extensions, and your shoulder exercises.  Shoulders can be worked by raising dumbbells with your arms at your sides. As a bird flaps its wings, you raise your arms up/down same as a bird when it flaps its wings.  You're 'PUSHING OUT.'

PULL

Your pulling exercises are your pull/chin-ups, bicep curls and back rows.

You should add leg exercises to either day.  Also, you should add stomach crunches for your upper stomach or leg lifts for your lower stomach.  Leg lifts can be done by laying on the floor and raising your legs about a foot in the air.

NOTHING TO IT!
